Fresh Stuffed Figs With Cheese And Almonds

Cultivated in Egypt thousands of years ago Figs have a long culinary history. They were even mentioned as "holy foods" in some ancient writings. Westerners were introduced to figs during the 16th century and became very popular then.

Figs contain antioxidants, dietary fiber and easily absorbed fructose which is great for health too. This makes them a great snack.

Soft, seedy and sweet. Figs are great for experimenting new recipes. So looking for something new for your dinner party, try this  Fig Dessert. Figs are delicious when in season and this gives them a lovely sweet edge. In my recipe today figs, almonds and cheese and a dash of cinnamon make the most delicious and easy dessert one can think of. So why not try it....

Ingredients:

  • 8 ripe fresh figs
  • 4 tbs bourbon/cognag or orange juice
  • 4 oz. blue cheese / brie cheese
  • a handful of fresh almonds
  • 1 tbs cinnamon

How To:

Wash and dry the figs. Working from the stem end of each fig and using a paring knife  cut an X about halfway toward the base.

Place a piece of cheese and couple of almonds in each fig. Place figs on a baking sheet cut size up. Pop Them in the oven.

Bake at preheated oven at 350 F for 8 to 10 minutes until the cheese melts. Sprinkle each with cinnamon and baste with bourbon or orange juice and serve warm.
